Summertime is here, and it’s high time we all get out and enjoy the outdoors! Fresh air and exercise mixed with some sunshine can do wonders for your overall mental health and physical wellbeing. Summer is a time I cherish, and this year it will be extra sweet.
I’ve already started to update my skincare routine for the change of seasons and wanted to share a few things that I do every year to be summer-ready.
Extra Time to Exfoliate
I like to ramp up my exfoliation routine in the summertime, so that my arms and legs are sundress and swimsuit ready. One of my best skincare tips is to use a sea salt scrub before shaving. It’s great for removing dry skin and softening the hairs on your legs so you’ll get a closer, cleaner shave.
Pretty & Pedicured Right at Home
During the summertime, I live in sandals. I wear them to work, to the beach, out to dinner and everywhere else that I go. All of this time in sandals can take a toll on my feet. So, each night, I apply my moisturizer stick all over my feet. This helps to prevent cracked heels and dry cuticles. I also lighten up my toenail polish with blush pinks, corals and light pastels.
Can’t Get Enough Coco
Spray-on body oil is my absolute most-used summer staple. I use it on my legs, feet, arms… even my hair. Chlorine and saltwater will suck the moisture right out of your skin and hair. So, I spritz a little body oil directly onto my hands and work it through the dry ends of my hair. Then, I spray it directly on my arms, legs and décolleté and rub it into my thirsty skin.
SPF – Never Go Out Without It
I am adamant about wearing sunscreen daily, not just in the summertime but year-round. As a kid growing up in Florida, I baked in the sun. I wish I could turn back time and tell my younger self, “you’ll regret that at 50!” Today, I make up for my teenage decisions and visit my dermatologist regularly. I always wear a high-quality sunscreen, SPF lip balm and make a point to bring a coverup and wide-brimmed hat.
Bronze & Beautiful
Although I avoid tanning in the sun, that doesn’t mean I’ve said goodbye to that desirable summery glow. Today, I use a bronze shimmer soufflé crème. It super lightweight and provides a very natural, sunkissed glow.
Seasonal Scents
This time of year, I change out my fragrances to ones that are bright, fresh, and crisp. Right now, I am using some of my citrusy faves like Florida Fresh and Coconut Lime. I also like to mix in the invigorating scent of lemongrass with my aromatic diffuser, and I keep my roll-on essential oil in my purse for a quick pick-me-up.
I hope you have big plans to get out and enjoy some R&R this summer. Don’t forget to protect your skin by packing these summertime skin care essentials.
