Create Your Signature Scent by Layering

Scent Layering | Naples Soap Company

The arrival of the fall ushers in the opportunity for some trendy and stylish layering. We’re not talking about fuzzy sweaters or pretty pashminas though! In Florida, we’re getting into the fun of fall by layering our scents.

We like to do this by mingling products across different fragrance lines. If you always select the same scent such as our Florida Fresh Body Butter, Natural Soap and Bath Bomb – that’s totally okay! But from time to time, you may want to mix it up and try something new.

Experimenting with different scent combinations lets you to create something that is uniquely yours, and it gives you the chance to change your scent based on your mood or style.

So, how do you go about mixing and matching scents to create something that is a turn-on versus a turn-off? Here are a few suggestions:

Your Daily Routine

Many of the products you use like your soap, shower gel, deodorant, and hair spray are scented. So, when you think about scent layering, don’t just think about your perfume. Think about every product you use in your daily routine.

Experiment First

Begin by trying scents in the same family. For example, if you like florals, mix a rose with jasmine. Or if you prefer woodsy scents, mix a sandalwood with a cedar. Allow your test scents to mingle together for about an hour to see how they blend with your own pheromones. As you get more comfortable pairing scents, try a citrus with a floral or a musk with a vanilla.

A Good Base

It’s best to apply your heaviest note first as it has more staying power over lighter scents. Base notes are typically vanilla, amber, musk, sandalwood, patchouli and cedarwood, whereas lighter notes are floral, citrus and fruit scents.

Lock In Your Scent

Fragrance looks for something to bind to, so keep your skin hydrated to extend the longevity of your fragrance. Consider using one of our body butters as your first scent layer to not only lock in moisture but also to serve as your base.

Transition from Day to Night

It’s always good to start the day out on a lighter note, then reapply later in the day with something stronger. For instance, start with vanilla as your base and add something citrusy or a light lavender for the morning. At midday, layer on a new scent like a lemongrass or jasmine. Then for night time, add something sultry like amber or sandalwood.

We hope you’ll consider trying a new way to layer this fall by creating your own signature scent.
